Sean Kinchela, Local Famous

Sean is a proud Gamilaroi and Wiradjuri man with family ties to the Duncan & Kinchela families of Moree and Coonabarabran, NSW as well as the Ah See’s of Dubbo and Wellington, NSW.

A passionate artist in many mediums including acrylics, digital formats, photography & videography, Sean uses all art forms to tell stories – the stories he sees in the lands, oceans, and the skies above, and those passed on from his Elders to share with his children and family.

Sean enjoys being able to paint a picture that others can visualise in their minds, and he appreciates that being an artist has connected him with so many great people across our country.

Sean says “working with ACHIA has been an honour, being able to bring an artwork to life that represents their work and everything they represent. Promoting the human rights of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW to decent, affordable, and secure housing. Representing NSW corner to corner, the urban, coastal, and inland communities was a real stand out point about ACHIA to me. The commitment to the housing system for our people had a huge influence on me creating an ACHIA artwork that would represent not only the work they do, but also our people and communities.”

Of the artwork, Sean says “With the ACHIA NSW logo in the centre, 5 sections radiate which are:

  • Black – this section represents our inland NSW people, and the patterns represent dry country
  • Brown – this section represents coastal areas and the people who live along the coastline
  • Deep Red/Maroon – this section represents our people who live in the hills and mountains of NSW
  • Dark beige – this section represents scrublands, bush and forest areas of NSW
  • Light beige – this section represents city and town areas with highways and roads

I made the sections so they would all be moving in direction of the new ACHIA logo to represent that ACHIA represents all these sections of NSW, all the family groups and economically different people across country.

I wanted to have it come across that all areas are thought and cared about, especially isolated areas of NSW not just cities and built-up areas.

Acknowledgement of Country

ACHIA NSW acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land we live, work and play on. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, for they hold the memories, traditions, culture, and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across this beautiful nation. These lands were never ceded; it always was and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands.
