The NSW Aboriginal Housing Caucus 2023 was held on Wednesday 27 September and Thursday 28 September 2024 at Murrook Culture Centre in Williamtown NSW.  The program and materials shared during the caucus are available for download below:

Program for the NSW Aboriginal Housing Caucus 2023 was held on Wednesday 27 September and Thursday 28 September 2024 at Murrook Culture Centre in Williamtown NSW.

The 2023 Caucus was opened by Charlie Trindall, Chairperson, ACHIA NSW who provided the ACHIA NSW Chair Address.

The Keynote Address was presented by Clayton Barr, MP, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Member of Cessnock, Temporary Speaker, and Member of the Australian Labor Party.

SESSION 1 – Social Housing Accelerator Fund (SHAF) & the work of ACHIA NSW: Current Status, Sector Preparations, Readiness and Opportunities was presented by Lisa Sampson, CEO, and Megan Lawrance, Director Project Development & Implementation, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 2 – “Rapid Building Technology and Construction” was a VENDOR PANEL that presented Who’s in the ACHIA Marketplace: 5-minute Snapshots.  The vendors who presented were

SESSION 3 was conducted in three break-out groups:

  • BREAK-OUT RED! – Problematic Policies was lead by Michelle Rogers, Manager Policy & Partnerships, ACHIA NSW.
  • BREAK-OUT YELLOW! – Energy Matters: Heading to Net Zero in 2050 was lead by Caitlin McDowell, Head of Public Affairs, Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA) NSW.
  • BREAK-OUT BLACK! – Navigating Planning and Helping Landowners to Get Over the Line was lead by Rohan Johnston, Senior Manager, Aboriginal Planning Concierge, NSW Department of Planning.

SESSION 4NATSIHA Update: The National Housing Sector Strengthening Plan, Housing Policy Partnership & the 2023 Closing the Gap Review presented by Rob Macfarlane, CEO, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association.

SESSION 5Consultation LAUNCH was Working with your Local Council: Tell us your wins and challenges presented by Megan Lawrance, Director Project Development & Implementation, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 6Consultation LAUNCH was Tracking the Sector Visioning Workshop (SVW) Series Top 10 Priorities: Have Your Say presented by  Simon Wade, Director & Paula Taylor, Housing Industry Development Manager Sector Development, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 7Consultation LAUNCH was Model Management Agreement – Developing Version 2 with you presented by Megan Lawrance, Director & Cassandra Sheridan, Service Development Manager, Project Development & Implementation, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 8 – Showcasing a Local ACCO Success Story: Murrook Culture Centre presented by Andrew Smith, CEO, Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council.

SESSION 9 was conducted in three break-out groups:

  • BREAK-OUT RED! – Asset Management: Property Inspections using a ‘Test & Fix’ approach lead by Kerryn Lawrence, Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit, NSW Health
  • BREAK-OUT YELLOW! – Housing Australia Future Fund: Update lead by Rob Macfarlane, CEO, NATSIHA & Lisa Sampson, CEO, ACHIA NSW.
  • BREAK-OUT BLACK! – Resource LAUNCH ‘My Path, My Steps’, a Core and Cluster Practice Development Tool lead by Eleanor McCall, Service Development Manager – Domestic & Family Violence, Project Development & Implementation, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 10The Indigenous List: NCAT Tribunal Changes presented by Michelle Craig, Manager, Aboriginal Resource Unit.

SESSION 11Shaping your Peak: ACHIA’s name & approach presented by Charlie Trindall, Chairperson, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 12Taking Your Lead: Issues from the Parking Lot presented by Leanne Stanley, Director Closing the Gap, Policy & Communications, ACHIA NSW.

SESSION 13 – ACHIA NSW: Walking shoulder-to shoulder with you Resources you can use generated by The Coolamon Project, General Q&A, Evaluate the 2023 Caucus and Closing Statement lead by Lisa Sampson, CEO, ACHIA NSW.
